On the Island Itamaraca you can visit a famous fort that dates back to the colonial period, built by the Dutch in 1631. In the 17th century the fort served as base for the Dutch, who where involved in numerous battles against the inhabitants of the Portuguese colonies in Recife and Olinda. The fort gives you the special opportunity to experience the colonial period, with its old battlements and cannonry that make the site a beautiful place.
The boat trip offers a number of destinations on sea, on the river and on land. You can take a trip through the mangroves, spend some time on two islands, visit the "Fort Orange" and the sea cow farm, take a sunbath at a beach with the locals, picnic at a river in the jungle or snorkel at the ocean's reef. This trip is a must for any Brazil-visitor!
